Norwegian edtech company Firmli plans to launch an AI Student Co-pilot in November 2026, designed to help institutions and agencies assess applicants’ progress towards enrolment.

The tool will initially become available to existing clients, followed by a wider rollout for which the company has not specified a date.

According to Firmli, it will combine student profiles, application records, uploaded documents and communications, including emails, WhatsApp messages and telephone call summaries, within its existing platform.

“Most education businesses already hold a significant amount of information about each student, but that information is scattered across systems, communication channels, documents and individual staff members,” said Harinder Singh Aulakh, Firmli’s founder and CEO.

Planned features include application-readiness assessments, program recommendations and alerts about issues requiring attention. Authorised staff will also be able to ask questions about individual students through an AI interface.

The company gave a hypothetical example involving a student who raises affordability concerns during a call, has outstanding financial documents and faces an approaching application deadline.

It said the tool could connect those details and recommend a follow-up, helping counsellors identify problems that might otherwise remain buried in separate records.

Firmli also lists financial and visa-readiness indicators, alongside estimates of conversion and enrolment probability, among the intended outputs.

Firmli said the tool is intended to reduce the time staff spend reviewing files and checking application status.

According to the edtech platform, the student information and AI-generated insights would be governed by each organisation’s existing user permissions and data controls. Recommendations would show their underlying sources so staff could review the information before acting.

The Oslo-founded company says it serves institutions and agencies across more than 25 countries. Its existing platform covers recruitment, admissions, communications, partner management and finance.

Aulakh said the new tool was intended to support professional judgement, with counsellors retaining responsibility for decisions.

“AI shouldn’t create another dashboard for staff to monitor,” he said. “It should reduce the cognitive burden on them, explain what’s happening, why it matters, and what to consider doing next, while keeping the human team in control.”
